Just a slight heads up, you're really want to get familiar with how to do "events" in this. I tried my hand out on it, it took a bit to get the hang of it and make something worthwhile(like a single scene from RB9's MGQ). Other things to be aware of, you'll need to resize pics to a specific size in order for them to A) Fit and B) not be too pixelated, and writing in it is a bit of a chore(it's not a character limit so much as a size limit, you can choose to work with it, or you can copy/paste till things work). That being said, you can pretty much take your favorite music from a series and sprites and put them in pretty easy, and there are a lot of sprites out there for this. But yeah, takes some practice but once you got things down it can be more streamlined. RB9's Monster Girl Quest was made in this(technically 2000, but was then moved to 2003). A starting tip would be to create a "test room", which is basically a square with your protagonist and testing events(talking to a NPC, working with switches, and making a "bad end"). If anybody more experienced(basically anyone other than me) feel free to share some tips. Also, you can load MGQ and see the framework(possibly borrow some resources)

Also, Blue Balloon has done some great custom sprites
http://www.blueballoon.sakura.ne.jp/index.html
Scroll down till you get to the boxes with [png][zip(japanese characters] under the english letters RTP for custom walking sprites of monstergirls like Barb-E, Soldieress, and the like, though Blue Balloon has done plenty of good original things, just explore around and feel your war around(they've even done battle sprites for Jemnezmy, Pollensalta, & Snow http://www.blueballoon.sakura.ne.jp/monster3.html )

Finding stuff from actual games is also easy because there are many databases that house that kind of thing(like sprites from Sailor Moon: Another Story http://fantasyanime.com/animerpgs/pssm_pics.htm ).

This maybe an overload, but just take it slow and easy and you'll be able to get the hang of it.

Hmm... who knows, maybe it's something to consider getting during the summer sales. But I'm curious, what makes this superior to VX Ace, besides the price point? Or is it just that Ace Lite (free version) has too much taken out of it to be worthy?

It's not superiority so much as some of the RPGM games involving mc are made by older version like this and not compatible with newer versions.
